Recycling old technology

SOUTHERN Downs Regional Council have revealed a new e-waste drop zone to properly dispose of and recycle unwanted TVs and computers.
The council has partnered with Australian logistics and recycling company DHL Supply Chain to establish a number of e-waste collection points under the National Television and Computer Recycling Scheme.
Council’s Environmental Services manager Tim O’Brien said residents and businesses now have access to a free recycling service for old or unwanted televisions, computers and computer products, such as printers, keyboards and mice – regardless of their age or brand.
“The e-waste drop zone collection points are Warwick Central Waste Management Facility (Old Stanthorpe Road, Warwick) and Stanthorpe Landfill and Resource Recovery Centre (Rifle Range Road, Stanthorpe) and residents are able to start using the service from 6 September,” he said.
Mr O’Brien said that unwanted electrical waste is Australia’s fastest growing type of waste and many items currently end up in landfill.
“We are happy to be working with DHL Supply Chain on this exciting project, and we urge residents to recycle their unwanted e-waste by using their closest drop zone.
