All urged to see the signs

By JONATHON HOWARD

POLICE Minister Jack Dempsey has urged all Queenslanders to do what they can to stop someone from becoming a missing person, before the unthinkable happens.
Mr Dempsey said the theme for Missing Persons Week this year was “See the signs before they disappear”.
“Each year in Australia almost 35,000 people are reported missing and in Queensland alone there are currently 270 people on the long term missing persons register,” Mr Dempsey said.
“Many of these are people are safe but have left their current home, leaving behind worried families and friends.
“I urge all Queenslanders to be on the look-out for warning signs such as out of character behaviour or when someone becomes withdrawn and to pay particular attention to family or friends who may be communicating less.
“Missing Persons Week is also a good time for Queenslanders to check the Missing Persons register – you may have seen something which may help solve a missing persons case.”
