CAPTION: Police have nabbed a number of drink drivers across the Southern Downs with one man blowing 0.186 on Saturday, 1 June.

STANTHORPE POLICE
POLICE officers from Stanthorpe Traffic Branch performed Traffic Operation Varley with the assistance of members of the State Traffic Task Force and the Roadside Drug Testing Unit from 28-30 May.
Officer intercepted vehicles at breath test stations at Wallangarra and also roamed the area performing targeted patrols. Four people were detected driving with drugs in their system. One person arrested for drug and drug utensil possession and numerous other traffic infringement notices issued for varying offences.

A RESIDENT’S window at Pierpoint Street was smashed by several juveniles throwing rocks on Friday night, 31 May. Due to the quick action of a nearby resident, one of the youths involved was found hiding in a nearby yard, before being handed over to Stanthorpe Police. The 12-year-old boy was referred under the provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act.

STANTHORPE Police were also called to a disturbance in a residence in Stanton Street. After one man’s arrest for a previous failure-to-appear in court matter, he was found in possession of a quantity of cannabis after a search was carried out at the Stanthorpe Police watch house. The 33-year-old male was arrested and charged with possessing a dangerous drug. He was kept in custody in relation to the warrant matter and was scheduled to appear in the Warwick Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

AT 1am on Saturday, 1 June, a Korean National was arrested and charged by Stanthorpe Police when he blew 0.186, or more than three times the legal limit of 0.05. The 28-year-old tourist was pulled over by police while he was driving down College Road, Stanthorpe. The man was believed to be returning home after a night out with friends. His licence was suspended immediately and he was scheduled to appear in the Stanthorpe Magistrates’ Court on 19 June.

AN international tourist from Israel was arrested on 1 June and charged by Stanthorpe Police for Causing a Public Nuisance. This arrest was as a result of police driving upon a disturbance in Railway Street, nearby to the Stanthorpe CBD. The 32-year-old male became violent upon his arrest but no officers or other persons were injured. He was scheduled to front the Stanthorpe Magistrates’ Court on the 19 June.

POLICE are investigating the death of a 24-year-old man who was found deceased at the scene of a single vehicle crash at Fletcher on 28 May. A passing motorist notified police of the crash on the New England Highway around 8.40am. The exact time of the crash has not been determined. The driver appeared to have been the only occupant in the car. The Forensic Crash Unit was called in to investigate the matter.

QUEENSLAND’S horror road toll continues to climb after two men lost their lives and two others were critically injured in a head-on road crash on the Warrego Highway on Sunday, 2 June. Police said four men were in a car that collided with a road train between Toowoomba and Dalby on the western Darling Downs. One of the injured men was taken to a local hospital for treatment, while a rescue helicopter was used to transport the second man to Brisbane in a critical condition. The Warrego Highway was closed for several hours as police carried out their investigations. Traffic investigators want to hear from anyone who witnessed the accident. The two latest deaths are adding to a horrifying 2013 road toll for Queensland, which has already reached 124 – or 14 more deaths than during the same time last year.

WARWICK POLICE
WARWICK Police raided a Willowvale Road home at 9.45am on Thursday, 30 May and uncovered a quantity of cannabis plants. The Warwick man in residence was charged with possession of a dangerous drug and producing a dangerous drug. He was ordered to appear before the Warwick Magistrates’ Court later this month.

POLICE are urging residents to lock up their homes and get to know their neighbours, following several break and enters on Wood Street recently. According to police reports, a motorcycle was stolen from a locked rear shed on Wood Street. A second home was also damaged by intruders who forced entry through two glass windows. Police are appealing for information and were investigating the break-ins.

MOTORISTS are being urged to ensure they are driving with the correct licence and vehicle registration before getting behind the wheel. The warning follows several motorists being nabbed across the Southern Downs for driving while disqualified, driving while unlicensed and/or driving an unregistered vehicle.
