Scope club’s afternoon tea

THE packed community hall at Allora.

ALLORA Scope Club held its highly successful annual afternoon tea on Saturday, 3 May.
Guest travelled from as far away as the Ballina and Wynnum Scope clubs as well as Inglewood, Stanthorpe, Toowoomba and places in between.
Entertainment was provided by the band “On Eagles Wings” – the Acason and O’Dea families, and two very talented local girls, Mary Higgins and Cassidy Henry who danced for the crowd.
The theme for the day was “Ladies in Red” and many took the opportunity to bring out their best red clothes with Ballina taking the prize for the most red outfits.
Cheques were presented to Matthew Lawson of Youngcare; Gail Sternbach of Allora Blue Care Day Respite; Cathy Cowley of St Vincent de Paul and Robyn Westerman of the Allora State School.
The club will be making a donation to the Allora Chaplaincy Committee at their dinner on 6 May.
Other donations will be made at the change-over lunch in July to St Patrick’s School, Allora Show Society, Allora Kindergarten, Kairos and the Toowoomba Hospice.
The Scope Club thanked the IGA, Woolworths and Coles of Warwick for their generous donations of goods towards the afternoon tea, also Percy’s Fruit on Wood Street, the Suncorp Staff, John Leeson, who took over as auctioneer and Helloworld formerly Harvey World travel for donating the main raffle prize – a weekend for two on the Gold Coast.
Club members Helen Smith and Daphne Whatley said without community support the event would not be possible.
“Thanks very much to anyone who assisted in any way to make the afternoon so successful,” they said.
“Without your help it would be much more difficult for us to run the function.
“Of course, it goes without saying that we appreciate the patronage of all those who attend, and come back year after year. We look forward to 2015.”
