Mayor back at helm

SOUTHERN Downs Regional Council mayor Peter Blundell is fighting fit and has been busy at the council’s helm since his return.
Cr Blundell was diagnosed in February with a manageable condition known as sarcoidosis and he has been receiving steroid treatment for the condition.
Sarcoidosis, according to Queensland Health documents, is a condition in which abnormal nodules, called sarcoid granulomas, appear in the body’s tissues. The condition can be treated and most people recover within one to two years of being diagnosed.
Cr Blundell, who returned to work and meetings on Monday 14 April, and took a short break over
the Easter period, said he had been scheduled to attend Warwick’s Anzac Day service – however he was unable to attend.
“Unfortunately, from time to time things will crop up that have no connection to the sarcoidosis that prevent me from attending some civic duties,” he said.
“I was able to attend the Stanthorpe Anzac Service and had quite a full weekend with the welcome for the Vintage and Veteran Chevrolet Association in Warwick. I also attended the Association’s Show and Shine on Sunday and thoroughly enjoyed the event.
“Yesterday, I thanked the association for bringing their event to the Southern Downs and the consequent injection into our economy and also recognised that events and visits like these are hugely important to our region,” he said.
