Back to burn up the floor

DUST off your dancing shoes and prepare to burn up the dance floor for the annual Dalveen Rural Fire Brigade Backburners Ball on Saturday night.
The ball, which last year attracted almost 270 people to the Dalveen Hall, is one of the brigade’s major fund-raisers of the year.
Dalveen Rural Brigade first officer Jim Mitchell said everything was set for a big night from 5pm to late at the Dalveen Hall.
He said entertainement would be provided by the Mic Travers Band who will play a wide variety of music including pub rock and blues.
“We have limited the ticket sales as the hall and surrounds can comfortably accommodate around 300 people, so it’s a case of first in, best dressed,” he said.
Once again, interest has been received from far afield after last year’s event.
“Last year’s attendance was really encouraging, and if it continues to grow like we think it will, we may have to move it next year outdoors onto the oval,” he said.
Jim said there was no charge to camp on the oval adjacent to the hall and they expected a lot of people to take up the offer to camp and make the most of the recovery breakfast the next day.
Jim stressed it was a family-friendly event, and that the dress was casual.
Tickets are available at Brinx Deli, Stanthorpe, Sams Fruit Shop at The Summit, the Dalveen Post Office, or by phoning Nathan Parkes on 0488 300 356.
