Alarm over road triggers talks

THE shocking condition of Mt Lindesay Road between the Southern Downs and the Northern Rivers district of NSW was discussed at a meeting this week.
Federal Member for Maranoa Bruce Scott met with his counterpart, Minister for Agriculture and Member for New England Barnaby Joyce, Downs to Rivers Action Committee chairman Neil Meiklejohn, representatives of Tenterfield, Kyogle and and Richmond Valley councils, and NSW MP Thomas George.
“I believe the Mt Lindesay Rd is an important trade and tourism route for the Southern Darling Downs region and I’m pushing hard to see this road upgraded,” Mr Scott said.
“The Mt Lindesay Rd could act as a relief valve when other transport routes into and out of the Downs and Granite Belt are cut, however improvements need to be made to make this route safer.”
