Take on Slip Rock walk

AN exploratory walk along the northern boundary of Girraween will be the first Stanthorpe Field Naturalist’s outing for the year on Saturday 8 February.
The walk will follow the fence line for several kilometres and then head southwest to ascend to a rocky outcrop close to Slip Rock.
The group will then walk up to a kilometre “cross country” to climb the rock outcrops towards Slip Rock. The walk is graded 7 to 8.
The Field Naturalists will meet at 9am Weeroona Park. It will be an all-day walk so bring morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea and plenty of water. Long pants are recommended.
On Sunday 23 February they are off to Tooloom National Park, approximately 70km from Stanthorpe via Liston and Legume.
Interested walkers are urged to meet at Weeroona Park at 9am or at the Legume Post Office by 9.55am (Queensland time). They will be able to join the convoy here after signing on.
For more information on this walk, phone Shelley on 0417 736 024, if necessary.
An addition to the outing will be a visit to a local property owned by friends of club members, Peter and Lynette.
There the group will see extensive plantings of native shrubs, have morning tea and visit an area of native rainforest.
They will then drive to the National Park for lunch and to discover some of the wonders of this park before returning home before 5pm.
A feature of the day will be viewing a giant stinging tree with a massive circumference. Twelve people can stand around the trunk of this tree.
