Relay for Life success

Warwick Relay for Life participants lit a candle vigil for those loved ones lost to cancer, during Warwick’s first Relay for Life event.

WARWICK’S first Relay for Life event has been praised by Cancer Council Queensland CEO, Prof Jeff Dunn, who said the town raised almost $50,000 for cancer research and support.
The result could cement future events for Warwick to continue to research towards curing cancers and supporting those battling the disease.
“I would like to applaud the Warwick community for their exceptional support of the Warwick Relay For Life at the weekend,” he said.
“A heartfelt thanks goes to hundreds of volunteers who gave their time to join us in celebrating cancer survivors, remembering loved ones lost to the disease, and fighting back in the hope of a cancer-free future.
“More than 28 registered teams, including cancer survivors and carers, raised $48,754 at the weekend – with the final tally continuing to rise as teams who undertook on-site fund-raising activities bring in final donations.”
Prof Dunn said it was a phenomenal effort from the community and Warwick residents had doubled expected fund-raising targets.
“To each and every person who participated: thankyou. Not only have you contributed to the work of Cancer Council Queensland across the state, you have given tangible hope to people in your local community touched by cancer,” he said.
