On Saturday, Stanthorpe golfers played the October monthly medal and putting competition. It was their final chance to qualify for the Medal of Medallists round in November.

The October winner of the Men’s medal was Keith Jones who had one of his best rounds at the course. His front nine began with a birdie three at the first hole and he didn’t look back. Jones was out in 39 and back with the same score for 78 off the stick and nett 66 for a decisive win. Eric Ree claimed the runners up prize with nett 68, a score that in previous months would have been good enough to claim the medal.

There was clear air between Margie Locke the winner of the ladies’ medal and the field. Locke had a good round returning nett 69 five shots clear of runner up Lisa Stuart who was declared runner up following a countback with Marie Cook after they returned nett 740. Marie did not go home empty handed. She had the best gross score in the ladies competition (88), and shared the putting honours with Margie Locke, 28 for the round.

The men’s winner, Keith Jones also had the best putting score, 25 for the day. Scott Constable cleaned up the majority of the remaining prizes in the men’s comepitition. Once again Constable had the best gross score of 72 and held the pin shots at 12 and 17, pro-pins at 5/14 and 9/18 and a share of the run down.

That did not leave many crumbs for the rest, but Bruce Green grabbed the pin at three and a run down while Keith Jones held the pro-pin at 1/10.

Both men’s and ladies’ winners will join the medal winners over the past 12 months as they play for the Medal of Medallists next month.
