More than 100 visiting golfers descended on Warwick this week for the Downs and Southwestern District Ladies Championship.

Golfers from Toowoomba and as far afield as Roma and St George are expected to play the Championship event.

Warwick champion, Samantha Hinze will be out to defend the district title she won in Charleville last year and is hopeful of achieving her ninth such award.

Sam goes into the event as the favourite but will have plenty of stiff opposition from several Toowoomba players with low handicaps.

The Foursome Championship was played on Tuesday while the 36 hole Stroke Championship is played over Wednesday and Thursday.

Naturally, the course is closed to social play over the duration of the event.
