The fairytale continues as Stanthorpe United booked a spot in the Toowoomba Football League grand final following a gutsy one-nil victory over Willowburn at Gatton this afternoon.

Reduced to 10 men for most of the game, United still dominated play for most of the second half, but were unable to convert their scoring opportunities. Willowburn made some late challenges but were unable to repeat their performance from last weekend when they scored in the final 10 minutes of the last home and away fixture to take the minor premiership and presidents cup. The United defense was rock solid in the dying minutes and were able to hold on to the one-nil advantage given to them through a Hunter Murphy goal in the first half.

The team – who petitioned Football Queensland to enter the TFL after Covid hit – will now play in the grand final in two weeks time. Full report in this week’s paper.
