The Tenterfield Tigers bared their claws as they raked up 70 points against the young Gundy Maroons side last weekend. The Tigers’ Jarrod McIntosh scored four tries in the Tigers’ win. Brendan Minns also helped himself to a double while Daniel O’Reilly got in plenty of kicking practice. He nailed 10 conversions and also scored a try.
Tigers president Damian Petrie went into the Maroons room after the game and spoke with many of the young players. He said he was impressed with the young side.
“They are a team of very young kids and don’t worry about the score line, they played well,” Petrie said.
It is an opinion echoed by Killarney’s Mike Tattum who several weeks ago said although they were well beaten by the Killarney side were a young team with plenty of promise.
Timothy Tribe and Josh Drennert were the lone try scorers for the Maroons.
This weekend there are no BRL fixture games. There was a representative game between the Border Bushrangers and a Northern Districts side programmed for this weekend. Unfortunately that game has been cancelled with Northern Districts competition facing serious problems after the floods early this year. Teams will no doubt enjoy the weekend off as many players are carrying injuries.
