More bonus points for Souths

RSL bowler Duane Lihou in action against Souths.

In what looked an evenly matched game RSL and South’s went head to head on the High School Oval last Saturday.
RSL opened their innings in positive fashion and had scored 59 runs before Duane Lihou fell for 36.  Todd Brady looked in good touch but was caught behind off the bowling of Dan Cameron for 21. Several of RSL players who followed got off to good starts but failed to convert their starts to big scores. Will Dowie (30), Jason Lawer (37) and Dave Becker 29 (not out) all batted well.RSL finished their 40 overs with a solid score of 5/190.  Not a bad score on the synthetic wicket.
They were restricted by some good bowling performances from South’s bowlers including Danny Folkers (1/43), Dave Burgess (1/38) and Dan Cameron (1/14).
South’s top order could hardly have made a less impressive start to their innings losing three wickets for 12 runs. A 28 run partnership between Mal Whitton (30) and Adam Bonner settled the ship.  Adam Bonner combined with Ben Staley for a 105 run partnership that set up a win for the premiers.  Adam Bonner reached a milestone in his club cricket career scoring his first half century on his way to a score of 62.  He was run out by another youngster Josh Becker of fielding as he tried to sneak a cheeky run. Bonner was just edged out as top scorer by Ben Staley who finished not 67 as South’s recorded another comprehensive win in the 33rd over claiming their second four point win in as many weeks. Will Dowie was perhaps the pick of the RSL players.  He was in good form with both bat and ball returning the good figures of 3/23.
