Stanthorpe’s Carnell Raceway will be holding their second last drag racing meet of the year to be held this Saturday, September 29.
Organisers are expecting a good turnout of cars and all the usual racers will be there. John De Graaf from Brisbane will be one of the competitors to compete on Saturday racing his Mazda RX4 powered by a 302ci Windsor V8. He has run a best of 9.6 seconds at 138 miles per hour down the quarter mile.
Joining him will be Darren Veal also from Brisbane in his 1960 Austin Healey Bug Eyed Sprite which is powered by a 462ci Big Block Chevy V8. He has run a best of 8.8 seconds at 155 miles per hour down the quarter mile. Darren Veal currently holds the Carnell Raceway Super Sedan Track Record which still stands at 6.08 seconds after the record was claimed 7 years ago. De Graaf and Veal haven’t been to Stanthorpe for a few years and would love to return to the track.
Another duo competing will be Garry Cameron and Andrew King. Garry drives a 1959 Anglia powered by a 500ci Big Block Chevy which has run 9.40 second quarter mile times and Andrew drives a 1958 Prefect Van powered by a 289ci Windsor V8 which runs 11.30 seconds down the quarter mile. They are regular racers at Nostalgia Drag Meets at Willowbank. This will be their first time at Stanthorpe.
