Let’s get physical with physie

The Granite Belt YMCA Physical Culture Classes have hit the ground running, with more than 70 members between the two areas of Tenterfield and Stanthorpe in their first year of operation.
Physie (pronounced “fizzy”) is a blend of gymnastics, modern dance, ballet, lyrical, stretch and strengthening exercises to support these movements, brought to Australia by a pair of Danish brothers, now the sport is uniquely Australian and celebrating its 120th birthday.
Physie teacher, national judge and national competitor Rachel Swanders said most people in the Stanthorpe area had no idea what physie was until they came along to class.
“All the girls and ladies are very excited to have a new dance sport option in the Stanthorpe area and have all left their lessons buzzing with excitement,” she said.
Teachers Rachel Sanders and Kimberly Buckman are thrilled to be able to share their passion and excitement for a sport that has given them so much and they can’t wait to continue sharing it with girls and ladies in the Granite Belt area.
New members are welcome at anytime. Classes are held in Tenterfield on a Monday afternoon at the Tenterfield Showground Pavilion and Thursday afternoons in Stanthorpe at the YMCA.
