Wilbur hoping to kick more goals

That magic boot of Gremlins Jason Wilmot will be missing from this year’s Gremlins line up but the popular player is hoping to kick more than a few personal goals in the 2012 season.
Wilmot begins training next week with the Warwick Cowboys and is looking forward to the challenge. He said early this week the decision to play with the Cowboys was purely a personal one. “I wanted to challenge myself to be the best I possibly could. I have never been fitter and I decided I should give it a go.” Wilbur, as he is known to all will not just be satisfied to make the starting line up for the Cowboys each week. He has set himself a personal goal to play in the rep sides for Toowoomba and South West and perhaps even further afield.
“I have a lot of respect for Gary Lawrence the Cowboys coach and I’m looking forward to the opportunity to play under someone with such a wealth of experience,” Wilmot said.
Wilmot, who expects to be playing at his preferred position five eighth, said the Cowboys have three pre season games set down before the TRL season kicks off.
“We (Cowboys) play the Barrett Shield, Toowoomba Souths and Brisbane side Aspley,” he said.
Wilmot follows former Gremlin Scott Kerridge who had a successful season for the Cowboys a few years ago before injury forced his retirement. While Wilmot will be missed by the Gremlins his decision should be seen for what it is – a real positive for all those playing in the Border League. It is a great example of the opportunities that exist for all Border League players who have the ability, drive and desire to take their game to the next level.
We will all be watching Wilbur with interest.
