Crestani collects championship

Talented Stanthorpe teenage footballer Cameron Crestani returned home from Canberra with a broad smile, a championship medal and a sense of satisfaction after months of hard work throughout 2011 paid dividends. Crestani was vice captain of the successful Queensland Academy of Sport football side that competed in the State Institute Challenge (14/15 years) in the nation’s capital over five days in December. Nine teams from across Australia took part in the event with teams travelling from as far afield as Darwin in the NT, Tasmania, South Australia and the Far West.
The QAS side played eight games to qualify for the final. They went on to defeat NSW 4-1 in that game and claim the champion’s trophy.
Technical director of the FFA Han Burger presented the team with their Champion’s Medallions.
For Crestani it was as if Christmas had come early. He said the win was the highlight of his soccer career to date. It was sweet success for the dedicated football player who travels to Brisbane several times a week to train and play with the QAS.
It is another step in the right direction for an unassuming youngster who has lofty aspirations to wear the green and gold for Australia and make football his career as well as his passion.
