Tips from a champion

Members of the The Warwick Swimming Club & WIRAC Squad were treated to some expert advice last Saturday when Olympic champion Duncan Armstrong accepted an invitation to conduct a clinic at the WIRAC centre.

It was a unique opportunity to for swimmers and their families to spend time with the Armstrong who became a household name after his upset win in the 200m freestyle event at the Seoul Olympics in 1988. Armstrong also has the honour of winning Australia’s 100th Olympic swimming medal.

Armstrong now divides his time between motivational speaking and media commitments but the former champ admits he is most comfortable poolside these days passing on his knowledge and experience. . He took the young swimmers through some dry land activities before they hit the pool to show him their swimming abilities.

After the swim session, Duncan spoke to parents about any concerns they had & then spoke to the swimmers about the session.

The Warwick swimming club provided a free sausage sizzle whilst Duncan autographed a few swimming caps for the swimmers.
