Honorary Stanthorpian Charlotte Caslick has led the Australian Women’s Sevens in a strong finish at this morning’s Commonwealth Games final.

Australia defeated Fiji with a score of 22-12, taking home the gold.

The team secured their spot in the final after defeating defending champions New Zealand in the semi-finals.

Caslick and Madison Ashby secured Australia 17 points in the first half, with a strong defence keeping Fiji from scoring until the second half.

The gold medal was the missing link in the team’s trophy cabinet, with Caslick instrumental in the win by reading the play perfectly.

No team has ever won gold after losing a pool game, making the win all the more satisfying.
