The 150-year anniversary celebrations of Allan State School officially went ahead last month and no postponement due to flooding could deter the attendee’s excitement.

The heritage-listed building hosted former students as well as people with familial connections, which included organiser Jenny Thompson, who is the great-great-granddaughter of Michael and Anne McKone.

These individuals donated the land where the school was subsequently built 150 years ago (it was formally closed in 1967) and Jenny said it was an honour to be part of the celebrations.

The event included a school parade, author Paul Munson celebrating the launch of his new book, ‘The History of Sandy Creek’, a tour of the grounds, a cutting of the cake, and an unveiling of the plaque which commemorated the occasion.
