A Blast from the Past

Food and Music are back at Robert Channon Wines.

Food and Music are back at Robert Channon Wines.

Recently, the Brisbane Concert Choir performed Bach and Gjielo in the Robert Channon Wines’ Swigmore Hall, the first of their 2022 season of classical music and jazz concerts.

“We are so happy, after two long years of Covid restrictions, to be welcoming back music in the Swigmore Hall and food in the new Persian Poppy Café,” Robert Channon said.

Chef Leisa Gillham has transformed the old Singing Lake Café into ‘the Persian Poppy’ with Middle Eastern décor and an irresistible menu of dishes from Morocco to Persia.

Popular favourites already are the Moroccan Camel Tajine and the Tunisian Quail Egg Shakshouka and for desserts, the local figs confit in Middle Eastern spices and the Persian Love Cake.

This year is Robert and Peggy’s twenty-third vintage at Robert Channon Wines. From the very start, Verdelho has been their iconic wine with a string of accolades from James Halliday and other wine writers and gold medals and trophies.

Robert says “In the 2022 vintage, the whites will be the standout for us and, at this stage, our Verdelho looks to be one of the best vintages that we have made. We are really looking forward to getting it into bottle and hope to release it in July.“

This Saturday will be a chance to enjoy food, music, and wine at the winery.

The Toowoomba Municipal Band will be giving a free concert of Italian favourites at midday in the winery courtyard.

Visitors will be able to enjoy ‘Viva Italia!’ as they have lunch in the Persian Poppy or with a glass of wine at the outdoor seating.

Lunch bookings for the Persian Poppy can be made to Leisa on 0409 721 456 and enquiries about upcoming concerts to the winery on 4683 3260.
