QCWA Border Division celebrated the Association’s Centenary on Saturday 28 May.

QCWA Border Division celebrated the Association’s Centenary on Saturday 28 May.

The QCWA Border Division President, Mrs Irene Peachey of Stanthorpe welcomed guests to the luncheon held in the historic Warwick Town Hall.

“One of the highlights was Councillor Marco Gliori reciting his poem acknowledging what QCWA has achieved over the past 100 years and as we approach the new century of service to our region and Queensland,” said QCWA Border Division Centenary Committee Chairman, Penny Campbell-Wilson of Warwick.

Over the past 100 years, the QCWA Border Division has played a vital role in the Association of which our members are very proud, and we continue to uphold the aims and aspirations that our founding President, Mrs Ruth Fairfax laid down at a meeting Toowoomba in 1922.

QCWA Allora Branch has a very proud history as they held their first meeting of QCWA in 1922. Many branches in our region formed very soon after 1922, including Clifton and Dalveen Branches formed in 1924 as did Leyburn, Condamine Valley/Warwick and Killarney Branches. We have sixteen Branches in the Border Division and include Broadwater, Cunningham, Emu Vale, Glen Aplin, Granite Belt Weekenders, Hermitage-Yangan, Mt. Colliery, Texas, Victoria Hill and Wallangarra. The majority of our Branches own their own Halls, whilst a few meet in their community halls.

The Branches meet monthly, enjoy holding functions, and playing a continuing fine role in the Southern Downs region. We have many members who have been proud members of QCWA for over 50 years and a few great ladies who have enjoyed continuous membership for over 70 years. QCWA Border Division has a very proud tradition and we warmly welcome new members.

QCWA State President, Mrs Sheila Campbell of Condamine, joined everyone in Warwick for the occasion.

The QCWA Border Division President, Mrs Irene Peachey also welcomed the QCWA State Vice-President Southern Region, Mrs Carol Jackson of Toowoomba, the immediate past State President, and Chairman of the QCWA Centenary Committee, Mrs Christine King of Brisbane, Member for Southern Downs, Mr James Lister, Crs Sheryl Windle and Marco Gliori, and many QCWA members and friends,.
