Fundraiser for Ukraine family touches hearts

It was only two weeks ago that local Sally Edwards had the idea of raising funds in Warwick to reunite a Ukrainian family with their daughter in Queensland.

“I can’t believe the outpouring of love for this family,” she said. “I have had so many phone messages of support and donations.

“We have nearly reached our target of $15,000 and I feel confident with just a few more donations we will make it.”

David Iliffe on the ABC gave me a wonderful interview and I received many calls after people heard that,” Sally said.

“He asked me ’why Warwick’ and I said ’why not?’ Many of us feel moved by what we see every night on the TV and this is a chance to make a real difference in the lives of one family.

“It reminds us how lucky we are to live in a country safe from war and hunger.“

The family of five have now made it across the border into Poland and are in a resettlement centre in Krakow.

“They are really shell shocked, they have lost everything,” said Sally.

“They are so grateful to the people of Warwick who have raised this money for them, they can now see that they have options.“

“If you still want to help you can find out more information at www.warwicklifestyleproperty/make-a-difference or drop into the Warwick Credit Union with a donation.

The next fundraising idea is to hold a huge garage sale on 7 May at 65 Locke Street.

Sally said she has already received lots of items for sale.

“The more the merrier,” she said.

Good quality items can be dropped off at the house prior to 7 May.
