A single-vehicle accident on High Street in Stanthorpe has damaged one of the Apple & Grape Festival arches and closed the street.

A single-vehicle accident on High Street in Stanthorpe has damaged one of the Apple & Grape Festival arches and closed the street.

The accident occurred at approximately 3:15 pm this afternoon, and locals are advised to avoid the area as Queensland Police Services (QPS) are still on the scene.

QPS stated that the road at the moment is closed and advised locals to “avoid the area for now”.

Queensland Ambulance Services (QAS) stated they responded to the incident at 3:12 pm and assessed a male in his 30s, who was uninjured and did not need transport to the hospital.

The upright of an Apple & Grape Festival arch was damaged in the crash, and Russell Wantling, President of the Apple and Grape Festival, stated that “it’s definitely not a call I was expecting”.

He said he expects High Street to be closed for about another hour, as they’re waiting for a crane to come from Bellingham & Co in Warwick.

“But don’t count us out. Where there is a will there is a way, and we will get these arches back up for our festival.”
