Local boxer Chris Dawson won his recent fight, cementing himself as one to watch.

His brother, Jahmarley Dawson, said Chris improves every week.

Chris said before the fight he was nervous, but training helped.

His training regime is strict, and he had to sacrifice a lot of social activities in order to be at peak performance.

He said his recent match was “hard fighting”.

Chris said he wants to keep training, with Queensland State Titles and the Commonwealth Games coming up in 2022.

Jahmarley said Chris had great form leading up to the fight.

“Every boxer has nerves; they make you hungry for the fight,” he said.

He praised Chris for putting in the hard yards in the lead up to the match.

“I’m proud of him,” he said.

Chris says his opposition in his recent match were good, so he had to “fight smart”.

Jahmarley says Chris’ skills paid off in the match.

Chris’ performance was tight, Jahmarley said, and he didn’t brawl.

His opposition was simply outboxed.

Chris says he wants to get fitter, and focus on training in the New Year.

Chris took a week off from training after his match to rest, but will be back training hard now.

He promises he’ll still enjoy himself over Christmas, though.

People can attend Warwick Boxing Club at 33a Albert Street in Warwick.

You can find the times of their sessions on their Facebook page.

Warwick Boxing is open to everyone in the community, as it is considered an essential exercise so the vaccine mandate is not imposed on the venue.

The club stated online that it is still compulsory for everyone to check in, and all Covid rules that have been in place will still be insisted upon.

“If you feel sick or have any symptoms please go and get tested do not come to training,” they said.

“As a club we would like all our members to be vaccinated, but it is your choice.”
