As the 2022 Jumpers and Jazz in July festival approaches, registration for the Tree Jumpers Exhibition has started.

Exhibitions officer Emma Lenz said of the 130 available trees, 50 have been taken for next year’s festival so far.

“Some people and businesses have had the same tree for years,” Emma said.

Gallery director Karina Devine is responsible for creating the exhibition’s theme, which she said can be interpreted in many ways.

“I’m always on the look-out for theme inspiration and I write them down in a diary,” Karina said.

She said the inspiration for next year’s theme ‘ripples’ was developed from the idea of ripple effects.

“During the Coronavirus lockdowns, people took up hobbies like arts and crafts and knitting – a result of the pandemic,” Karina said.

When it comes to selecting the theme, she said she chooses a few potential ideas from her list and key staff members help with the final decision.

She said because the theme is for the Tree Jumpers Exhibition and not the entire event, people can be creative with their craft.

“I encourage people to participate over the next six months; it’s great to be part of it,” Karina said.

The Jumpers and Jazz in July festival will run from 21 to 31 July, 2022.
