SDRC unveils waste facility upgrades

Southern Downs Regional Council recently unveiled upgrades to the Stanthorpe Long Haul Waste Facility.

On Friday 26 November 2021, SDRC was joined by the Assistant Minister for Local Government and State Member for Pine Rivers Nikki Boyd MP at the unveiling.

SDRC says these upgrades will “ensure efficient continuity of waste services to the Granite Belt community”.

The upgrades were needed as the existing landfill recently reached capacity.

Upgrades include the provision of a new gatehouse building, the relocation of the existing weighbridge, the construction of a long haul waste facility shed, and improvements to the road network.

The $2.475m project received $1.725m funding through the Queensland Government’s 2020-21 COVID Works for Queensland program, with Council contributing the remainder towards the works.
