Southern Downs Regional Council approved the opening of public consultation regarding four roads off Saddledam Road at Leslie Dam.

The Warwick District Recreational Fish Stocking Association Inc. has put forward the name Boat Ramp Road for the second road.

They stated that this specific name will easily direct the public to the main boat ramp at Leslie Dam.

The name will now go out to public consultation for 21 calendar days, and will be advertised in the relevant media, with written advice to adjacent landholders and any other stakeholders for input.

Internal Council departments will also have input.

The remaining three roads will also go out for public consultation for 21 calendar days, seeking feedback on suitable names.

Any correspondence received will be tabled at a future Council meeting.

At that meeting a suitable name will be adopted based on both the applicable criteria and the outcomes of the public consultation.

Ed Kemp, Secretary-Treasurer of the Warwick District Recreational Fish Stocking Association Inc, submitted a letter to SDRC regarding the road.

He stated that the road is currently known as Catfish Way, however the new name of Boat Ramp Road will ensure that “everyone will be able to see a properly sign posted road that leads to the area where boats can be safely launched”.

He stated that Catfish Way has never had a sign on this road, and the name only exists on maps that were made when Leslie Dam was completed many years ago.

“Visitors to the area turn into Saddledam Road and drive along it looking for signs that will lead them to a proper boat ramp and renaming the road will make the boat ramp easier to find for everyone.”

Councillor Stephen Tancred questioned in the meeting whether naming one road Boat Ramp Road when there are other boat ramps may be confusing.

A staff member stated that this was why it was going to public consultation and they would explore that during the process.
